Overview

Join us for a 7-day journey from the ancient wonders of Rome to the breathtaking beauty of Sorrento, Pompeii, Capri and the Amalfi Coast. An adventure not to be missed — the perfect blend of cultural immersion and relaxation.

You'll stay in centrally located hotels in and around Sorrento, enjoy daily Italian breakfasts and selected meals, and travel comfortably between Rome, Naples and Sorrento by fast train and private transfer.

Explore the historic ruins of Pompeii, sail along the stunning Amalfi Coast, and visit the enchanting Isle of Capri. With free time to wander the streets of Sorrento or explore the coast by ferry, this tour is designed for Australians who want a balance of touring and personal exploration.

Optional extensions are available for those wishing to extend their stay in either Rome or Sorrento, or continue their way south to explore.

Itinerary
  1. Day 1 · Rome — Monday 8 June

On arrival into Rome check in to your centrally located hotel and start exploring the Eternal City. We give you great intel on what to explore, plus recommendations for restaurants (not too touristy) with great food only a short walk from your hotel.

  2. Day 2 · Rome to Sorrento — Tuesday 9 June (B)

Italian breakfast on the terrace, then check out and meet your tour representative in the lobby. They'll accompany you to the station and onto the fast train to Naples. On arrival you'll be met and taken by private transfer to your Sorrento hotel. Your representative walks you through the local area, restaurant recommendations and where to meet on touring days. Check into your Sorrento hotel for the next 5 nights. Dinner is at your own expense.

  3. Day 3 · Sorrento to Pompeii — Wednesday 10 June (B)

After breakfast, walk to the local station and take the Circumvesuvia train to Pompeii to meet your guide (small on-the-day fare payable directly). Pompeii was destroyed in 79 CE when Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the city under six metres of ash. Together with your guide you'll walk back in time through this preserved ancient city.

  4. Day 4 · Isle of Capri — Thursday 11 June (B)

Head to the Port of Sorrento for the ferry to Capri (weather permitting). An island of wealth for the wealthy, first "discovered" by Emperor Augustus. A full-day tour including a local guide, with time to explore. On return to Sorrento walk back to your hotel; dinner at own arrangements.

  5. Day 5 · Amalfi Coast — Friday 12 June (B)

After breakfast, walk to Sorrento port for your full-day tour of the Amalfi Coast — the natural beauty of the coast is best discovered by sea. Sail past Conca dei Marini, the ancient fishing village turned home to luxury villas, Furore with its 30-metre bridge, Praiano and Positano, the world-famous "vertical city". Dinner at own arrangements.

  6. Day 6 · Free day in Sorrento — Saturday 13 June (B)

A free day to explore Sorrento at your own pace — visit Ischia or the smaller islands off the coast of Naples, spend a day at the beach, or catch up on last-minute shopping. Tonight is your last dinner in Sorrento (own expense) — plenty of recommendations available.

  7. Day 7 · Sorrento to Rome — Sunday 14 June (B)

Last Italian breakfast, mid-morning check-out and free time for last-minute shopping. Meet your tour representative for your private transfer back to Naples for the fast train to Rome — arrive at Rome Terminal for onward travel. Optional extensions in Sorrento or further south are available on request.

Extend your trip

Extend your stay in Rome or Sorrento, or continue south to explore. Ask us — complimentary tour planning is included when you book.

Fitness & activity level
  • You will be expected to carry your own luggage.
  • Be able to get on and off trains.
  • Be able to walk 30 minutes at a reasonable pace.
  • This is a high-activity tour, requiring participants to be fit and active. It is not suitable for those with health concerns or difficulties walking long distances.
What to bring
  • A soft-sided suitcase you can carry yourself — hard cases don't fit some Italian lifts and cobbled streets.
  • Comfortable walking shoes already broken in — Italian old towns are cobblestone-heavy.
  • A light day pack for water, sunscreen, camera and a layer.
  • Refillable water bottle — Italian towns have public fountains with drinking water.
  • Adapter for European Type C/F power outlets.
  • Smart-casual outfit for dinners; a light scarf or shawl for churches (shoulders and knees covered).
  • Sun hat, sunglasses and reef-safe sunscreen — especially for Amalfi, Capri and Puglia coast days.
  • A light rain jacket or compact umbrella — Italian weather can turn quickly.
  • Personal medications in original packaging plus a copy of any prescriptions.
  • Photocopy of your passport stored separately from the original.
  • Swimwear, quick-dry towel and reef-safe sunscreen — Capri and Amalfi days involve boats and swim stops.
  • Non-slip deck shoes or sandals with a back-strap for the sailing day.
Trip notes
  • Bring your passport and check it is valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates.
  • Confirm your travel insurance is in place before paying your final balance — we recommend Cover-More and can pass on our 10% client discount.
  • Contactless cards (Visa / Mastercard / Apple Pay) work almost everywhere; carry €50–€100 in cash for small cafés, markets and tips.
  • Italy uses the euro (€). Notify your bank of your travel dates to avoid card blocks.
  • Italian sim / eSIM data plans are cheap and reliable — we recommend an eSIM (Airalo, Holafly) for maps and translation on the go.
  • Tipping is not expected — round up the bill or leave a couple of euros for great service.
  • Restaurants typically open for dinner from 7:30–8pm; lunch 12:30–2:30pm. Book ahead in high season.
  • Most churches require shoulders and knees covered — carry a light scarf or shawl.
  • Trains: arrive 15 minutes early, validate regional tickets before boarding, and keep an eye on the platform display (binario) as it can change.
  • Water taxis and ferries in Venice / Amalfi / Capri run on the day's sea conditions — we adjust the plan if needed.
  • The Capri and Amalfi sailing days are weather-dependent — if the sea is unsafe we'll switch to a coastal drive with equivalent stops.
  • The Circumvesuvia train between Sorrento and Pompeii is a short local fare paid on the day (approx €4 return per person).
The fine print
  • Group size 2–8. Guaranteed to run with a minimum of 2 passengers.
  • Single supplement available: approx €550–€950 depending on room type and availability at time of booking.
  • VIP rate: guaranteed hotel-room upgrade across the tour — €900 per room (upgrades differ per hotel).
  • Hotels in Italy are self-rated — ratings do not match Australian standards. Ask us if you'd like more detail on any hotel.
  • No early starts — we don't normally begin the day before 8am unless services change at the last minute.
  • Travel insurance is strongly recommended before paying your deposit. We use Cover-More and offer our clients a 10% discount.
  • Complimentary tour planning is included for all our tour guests for pre or post-tour bookings.
